Earlier today, Disney announced that the studio decided to separate ways with James Gunn after the Marvel director's controversial tweets resurfaced online. Now, after reacting to the shocking news, fans have started rallying for Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi to take Gunn's place as the helmsman of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Though the internet's been pretty much divided about Gunn's firing, fans all seem to agree that the best person to take over Gunn's role as the director of the third and final chapter of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is the indie darling Taika Waititi.

Here are some of the fans that have been nominating the What We Do In The Shadows helmsman for Gunn's post:

Though it's too early to say who's going to take over as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, fans do have a point. Not only does Waititi have the same cinematic flair as Gunn, he has sharp wit and humor too – two of the key elements in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Thor: Ragnarok wasn't just loved by fans. Critics also praised the Thor installment as one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "most audacious entry," charmed by the film's bright colors and its levity. Sure Waititi might not have exactly the same kind of humor as Gunn's, but they're both good at it.

What do you think? Should Taika Waititi replace James Gunn? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
