Marvel: Avengers Alliance to Shut Down This Month

Towards the end of last year, Marvel had already announced a sequel to Marvel: Avengers Alliance. This followed the game's three-year run on Facebook, with the sequel having just hit mobile platforms fairly recently.

Sadly, this month, the Facebook version of Marvel: Avengers Alliance will be shut down at exactly the end of the month: Sept. 30 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

This isn't the end of Marvel's announcement, however. In a blog post, the company also confirmed that it will be shutting down Marvel: Avengers Alliance and Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2 on all platforms. This includes the mobile version on Google Play Store, App Store, and Windows Phone Store, as well as the Facebook version.

"The decision was difficult to make, but we feel it's best to focus our energy and resources into making new games and digital experiences for our fans and community. As always, we use our portfolio of brands to differentiate our content, and we seek to develop the most creative and innovative products in the world. We greatly appreciate all of the amazing engagement, passion and commitment to our game."

This is quite the surprising decision for Marvel. Considering a recent issue with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2, the company isn't having a swell time in the games department, as there are only a handful of Marvel games that are worth the time investing. As such, it's not surprising that fans over at Facebook are reacting with outrage, like this one:

"So you're telling me the hundreds of dollars I put into the game was flushed down the toilet. We should still be able to at least play the game as is even if there are no more updates. You guys are nothing more than thieves."

From the looks of it, Disney isn't looking to change its tune, considering that it has already released an edited version of the blog post. Hopefully, there will be an even better game, though fans may not be as ready to accept it following this new announcement.
