Mark Wahlberg in Talks to Join Tom Holland in Uncharted Movie

Though the project may have spent some time in development hell, Sony looks to finally be pushing forward with their Uncharted movie with director Travis Knight. We know Tom Holland had been cast as Nathan Drake for a while, and it looks like they've found someone to co-star with him.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mark Wahlberg (Transformers) is currently in talks to play Nathan Drake's (Holland) friend and mentor Sully. While Wahlberg wouldn't be my first choice to play the character, I guess he could play off of Holland fine in the film. After all, the movie is going to be focusing on younger versions of the characters years before we meet them in the games.

For now, Hollywood is still trying its best to find a good balance when it comes to adapting games. They've stumbled and fell with films like Assassin's Creed and Tomb Raider, but they recently got a hit with Detective Pikachu. What's more, the Sonic the Hedgehog film is starting to look better now that they've fixed the design of Sonic.

For now, we have no idea what kind of story Sony is trying to tell with the Uncharted film, but hopefully, it will be something original and not adapted from a game storyline. I think it's best to approach these films as supplementary to the game rather than adaptations, seeing as they'll always disappoint because players will always compare it to the game experience which is a hundred times more immersive. Best just go with an original story.

Then again, that's just my take on it.

Uncharted is set to come out on Dec. 18, 2020, but it's possible that they could push that date further back.
