Mark Ruffalo on What Makes Thor: Ragnarok Unique From Previous Thor Films

The Marvel Cinematic Universe may have been serious and a bit dabbling on the humorous side with its past films, including the Avengers, Iron Man, and Captain America, but it seems like its gradually taking on a lighter texture with its future movies. We've seen it in Guardians of the Galaxy, so most likely Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will follow suit. Then we have Thor: Ragnarok. The Thor franchise may have been quite dark in its narrative in the past, but according to Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo, the upcoming Thor movie will be more humorous as compared to its predecessors.

In an interview with MovieFone for Now You See Me 2, the 48-year-old actor said:

Taika [Waititi] is directing it, so there will be a lot of humor in it, which we probably haven't seen before in the Thor world.

Well, Ruffalo is right with Waititi. It's quite apparent in the filmmaker's film repertoire, as well as his social media posts, that his niche is definitely comedy. However, Ruffalo may have gotten it wrong in his claim that humor hadn't been "seen before in the Thor world. Previous Thor movies have tackled on quite serious narratives, but humor certainly isn't lost in the movies. You definitely couldn't take Dr. Selvig and Darcy's shenanigans seriously.

Most likely, the takeaway from Ruffalo's statement is that the entire tone of Thor: Ragnarok is humorous, as compared from previous Thor films where humor is only sprinkled from time to time.

Aside from other cast members' teases about their characters, including Jeff Goldblum's he Grandmaster, Cate Blanchett's villainous Hela, and Ruffalo's Hulk, it looks like Taika Waititi's directorial debut in the MCU will be a much anticipated event.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
