Mark Hamill Says Carrie Fisher Was More Eager To Return To Star Wars

Star Wars fans might have been itching to see Mark Hamill reprise his role as Luke Skywalker before the release of The Force Awakens back in 2015, however, the Star Was legend admits that he was mostly afraid of returning to the big screen as the older version of the Jedi.

Sitting down to talk with The New York Times, Hamill says that he was a bit hesitant to play Luke Skywalker again in Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy. During the interview, the pop culture icon also recalled how George Lucas had invited him and Carrie Fisher to join the new Star Wars trilogy way before Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 20123.

"I was completely stunned," Hamill remembered. "Carrie, not a minute went by — she slapped the table and goes, ‘I'm in!' I said, ‘Carrie, poker face!'"

"I was just really scared," the Star Wars star explained. "I thought, why mess with it? The idea of catching lightning in a bottle twice was ridiculously remote."

Given the outcome of the prequel trilogy, it's pretty understandable that Hamill would be hesitant to return to the franchise. Luckily it seems like the sequel trilogy's doing much, much better than the prequels, and we're all excited to see what Hamill will bring to the table when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres on December 15, 2017.
