After months of waiting, Nintendo has announced that Mario Kart Tour is finally getting a proper multiplayer update. Prior to this, multiplayer was only available to fans who subscribed to the gold pass (ugh) but come March 8, everyone who downloaded the game can play online. This was a heavily-requested feature and we're surprised it didn't come sooner but hey, better late than never.
Mario Kart Tour's multiplayer will let you play with seven other players, whether they're just nearby or are around the world. While it doesn't beat playing Mario Kart 8 on the Switch/Wii U or even Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, this is a solid option for mobile gamers. Let's face it, not everyone can have a big, fancy console so this is a nice way to accommodate everyone.
While it is a functional and fun racer on mobile, Mario Kart Tour has been a bit controversial. Along with microtransactions, which is a necessary evil for the mobile market, the game also offers paid subscriptions that require a monthly payment if players want the best features. It's annoying and the fact that certain multiplayer features will also be locked behind these paywalls is pretty annoying.
If you haven't yet, Mario Kart Tour is now available on iOS and Android.
