Margot Robbie Teases R Rated Birds of Prey Movie with Harley Quinn

If there is one reason Suicide Squad made more money than it should, we can probably point to Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. The fact that Robbie gave her all on the role and managed to give us a passable Harley voice helped, even when she had to say cringe-inducing lines on a regular basis.

So when reports about a number of Harley Quinn spin-offs surfaced, fans weren't too surprised since the character has basically taken over the DC universe at this point. One project that got a lot of attention was the Robbie produced Birds of Prey film, which will be helmed by Dead Pigs director Cathy Yan.

Collider recently spoke with Robbie about the project and a number of interesting details were revealed. Robbie has actually spent three years working on the project, pitching it when Suicide Squad was still filming. The actress is also hoping that it will get a hard R rating since there aren't many girl gang movies that are only for adults, which is an interesting way to get some fan interest.

"I pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, ‘Harley needs friends.' Harley loves interacting with people, so don't ever make her do a standalone film. She's got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn't seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was always a big part of it."

Fans seem to think that the DCEU would be better if it catered to adults more, as the slightly more positive reaction to the Batman V Superman: Ultimate Edition has proven. We might even get an R rated Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix as the star. Could Harley and the Birds of Prey be next?
