'Magic: The Gathering' Game Designer Asks for Feedback on Standard, the Response Is Overwhelming

Sam Stod, Game Designer for Wizards of the Coast, took to Twitter yesterday to ask Magic: The Gathering players what they thought of the current Standard environment. The response from players was overwhelming, and it wasn't good.

Magic: The Gathering Hall of Famer and 4 time pro player of the year Kai Budde responded by ranking the current standard a 3 out of 10 (10 being the highest). He pointed out Emrakul, the Promised End and Smuggler's Copter as the primary culprits, and blamed Emrakul for limiting competitive diversity in Standard.

Kai wasn't the only pro player displeased with the current state of Standard, other professionals such as Brian Kibler, Patrick Sullivan, Todd Anderson, Sam Black, and Oliver Tiu all gave the current Standard a score of 3 or less, citing Emrakul as their primary source of frustration.

The majority of non-pro players also ranked the current Standard at around a 3, citing Emrakul, Copter, and Gideon as being too powerful in the current environment.

Do you agree with these pro player's assessment? Are you happy or unhappy with the current Standard environment? What do you think would help improve the format? Leave us a comment below!
