Magic: The Gathering Fall 2019 Set Name Revealed, Will Be Fairy-Focused

The next Magic: The Gathering set coming Fall 2019 will be called Throne of Eldraine, and Wizards of the Coast will make the official announcement at San Diego Comic-Con this Saturday at the MTG SDCC panel. However, leaked images from SDCC have been shared online, and they revealed not just the name of the new set but also the royal fairy-themed artwork that will be featured in the upcoming expansion.

So it looks like Magic: The Gathering will have another Faeries-focused set but Throne of Edlraine doesn't specify what plane it's located on. MTG Lead designer Rosewater previously said that the setting for the Fall 2019 set will be in a new plane so it's most likely not Lorwyn again. Lore-wise, there's not much to go on based on the expansion name. All we see is an invitation image that the prerelease will begin in September and that Faeries will be a central aesthetic since they're the only creature that appears on the invitation.

As you can see, the invitation invites fans to the "Royal Courts of Eldraine," which could mean that Oona, Queen of the Fae will return. Oona was defeated after trying to gain control over Lorwyn, but she lost her power but she might go for the Throne of Eldraine in the upcoming set's storyline. We'll find out more about Throne of Eldraine this weekend when the MTG panel goes live on twitch.tv/magic.

Watch MTG lead designer Mark Rosewater make the official announcement for Throne of Eldraine in the Magic: The Gathering SDCC panel this Saturday at 6 pm PDT.
