Magic: The Gathering Arena Mobile Version Launches on Google Play Store

The early access for the mobile version of Magic: The Gathering Arena has launched for Android devices on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021 with the release of the new Norse mythology-inspired set, Kaldheim.

Wizards of the Coast has announced that the MTG Arena mobile app will be released as part of MTG Arena's scheduled maintenance, so it may take time for it to appear on the Google Play Store, and it may become available in some regions before others. The app is called Magic: The Gathering Arena and you can also search for MTG Arena on the Google Play Store.

According to WotC, this is just the early access of the MTG Arena mobile version so expect the final version to be released for both Android and iOS devices later this year. The initial release for Android mobile devices is aimed at players who can meet their planned "recommended specs," which will require playrs to have access to a newer/higher-end device.

The mobile app is available for cross-play, so that means you can play with players who are using PC or Mac. Almost everything currently available in the PC version of MTG Arena is in the early access version, including current card sets (with Kaldheim as well), events, formats, direct challenge, deck building, mastery system, daily deals, etc. However there's a few features that won't be available in the Android early access:

Social features (Friends List, In-Game Messaging)
Sideboarding during draft
Code redemption
- Codes can be redeemed by using the PC/macOS client, or through the Wizards Account web page.
- If you redeem a code through the Wizards Account web page, you will need to navigate to the in-game store for the items to appear on your account.

The MTG Arena Android early access will be available everywhere MTG Arena and Google Play store are currently available, for all players with a compatible device. The game will support the following languages for mobile devices: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Korean, and Japanese.

You can check out the first look at the MTG Arena mobile gameplay and controls here.

Wizards also confirmed that MTG Arena will be availble on the iOS and tablet devices later this year. More information for their mobile launch plans will be revealed with the release of the next Standard-legal Magic set, Strixhaven: School of Mages.
