Magic: The Gathering Releasing New Anime Set in The World of Kamigawa

Wizards of the Coast are hyping up the upcoming cyberpunk-themed Magic: The Gathering set, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, and the most surprising way they're doing it is by releasing a new anime set in the Japanese mythology-inspired world but with a futuristic twist.

Today, the official Magic: The Gathering Twitter account shared the news about the set of OVAs from WIT Studios. The first is called Kamigawa: Shining World, and it will be released in just 5 days.

As shown in the tweet, the first episode is set to be released on February 16, and it will premiere on YouTube around noon in Japan. WIT Studio is animating the OVA with Maxilla, so expect the animation to be stunning. According to the English translation, the tweet also notes: "Furthermore, "Scratch (with Koshi Inaba)" will be used as an advertisement for the original strategic trading card game Magic: The Gathering, which has fans all over the world!"

Wizards of the Coast also released a cinematic trailer for Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, and it features the most futuristic world of the popular trading card game yet. You can watch the trailer below:

Of course, this is not the only Magic: The Gathering anime fans are looking forward to watch. Netflix is also developing an MTG animated series, which is currently in production. The streaming giant already shared pieces of concept art featuring its iconic characters, and images that feature the world of Ravnica and the Golgari guild. Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, the 91st Magic: The Gathering expansion, is set to be released on Feb. 18. You can check out all the spoilers at MTGRocks.com.
