Mad Max: Fury Road Wins The Most Awards of the Night with 6 Oscars

Spotlight may have won Best Picture at the 88th Academy Awards, but it was another film that really won this year's Oscars. George Miller's post-apocalyptic film Mad Max: Fury Road won over six awards, far surpassing any other film (The Revenant, which earned three awards, was its closest competitor). Fury Road nearly won all the below-the-line categories, including Best Costume, Film editing, Production Design, Makeup & Hairstyling, and both Sound Mixing and Editing. There were only a couple of exceptions: Best Cinematography, which The Revenant's Emmanuel Lubezki took home for a record third year in a row, and Visual Effects, which Ex Machina won. Fury Road helped shut out Star Wars: The Force Awakens from winning any of the Oscars it was nominated for.

With Fury Road winning six Oscars, one could argue that it doesn't make logical sense why it didn't win Best Picture. The film even made our #1 spot in our Top 10 Fantasy & Science Fiction Films of 2015. After all, the film received numerous awards from critic's associations and 10 Oscar nominations second only to The Revenant's twelve. I hope these accolades could potentially make Warner Bros. take another journey into George Miller's dystopian wastelands.
