The ever expansive canon of Star Wars has always been interesting, with multiple characters that have captured the hearts of fans, some of whom haven't even been in a film. Whether they're comic book characters like Doctor Aphra or have only appeared in the animated shows like Ashoka, fans are always hoping that they make their presence known somehow.
However, in an interesting turn of events, Lucasfilm has actually shown interest in the future of a young character who appeared in the finale of Star Wars Rebels.
At the end of Rebels, it was revealed that Hera Syndulla has a son named Jacen, whose father was the late Jedi Kannan. This officially makes the character the son of a Jedi and it seems like Lucasfilm want to use that potential in the near future.
Dave Filoni told iO9 that Lucasfilm is very interested in Jacen Syndulla's future. Filoni said he has been asked by the company's creatives about him, even though the producer didn't think about creating him too hard.
"I have not given a lot of thought to where that goes, to be honest. That doesn't mean that we wouldn't in the future. I'm already getting asked internally a lot about it from people here [at Lucasfilm]. Creatives here. So that's good. I like that."
It's too early to assume that Rian Johnson's new trilogy will revolve around Jacen, let alone include him. Still, the fact that Lucasfilm is already asking about the character - maybe even calling "dibs" on him - is very cool and shows that the franchise's presence will be felt in TV and films for a long time.
