Lord of the Rings Star and Metal Singer Sir Christopher Lee Dies at Age of 93

British actor Sir Christopher Lee, known as the master of horror who devoted his long acting career portraying iconic villains like Dracula, Saruman in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Count Dooku in the Star WarsEpisode II: Attack of the Clones, has died at the age of 93 after being hospitalized for heart problems and respiratory failure in London.

Lee's wife, the former Danish model Birgit Kroencke, held back the information for four days until all family memebers and relatives were informed. The couple married in 1961, and had one daughter, Christina.

The legendary actor known for his deep voice was knighted in 2009 for services to charity and drama and warded the Bafta fellowship in 2011. Lee was also known for being a singer who recorded various opera and heavy metal pieces. His 2013 single Jingle Hell entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 22, which made him the oldest living artist to ever make it to the charts.

Lee never retired from acting and he still has one movie yet to be released, the fantasy film Angels in Notting Hill, where he plays a godly figure who looks after the universe.

In an interview in 2013, Lee talked his love of acting. "Making films has never just been a job to me, it is my life," he said. "I have some interests outside of acting – I sing and I've written books, for instance – but acting is what keeps me going, it's what I do, it gives life purpose."
