Logan Guts The Lego Batman Movie at Box Office

A lot of rabid DC and Marvel fans always love to pit their favorite studios against each other, arguing which team has the better characters, which side has the better cinematic universe, and so on, and so forth.

Though the Warner Bros. DC Expanded Universe didn't do so well back in 2016, DC fans saw a comeback in the witty, self-aware The Lego Batman Movie which premiered with a $53 million weekend gross earning.

However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel's Logan went up and above those figures, raking in $88.3 million during its opening weekend – the fourth highest debut for an R-rated movie following American Sniper's $89.3 million, The Matrix Reloaded's $91.8 million, and Deadpool's $132.4 million opening.

It that's not enough, Logan also outdid the DC movie in China where the Marvel film earned $48.8 million, more than ten times the $3.5 million earnings of the The Lego Batman Movie. Though it is unfair to pit the two against each other, (one being an gritty, genre-bending R-rated superhero character study and the other being a wacky, fun-filled, self-aware DC 3D computer-animated comedy) The Lego BatmanMovie used to be the highest grosser of 2017, well, till Logan stole its thunder. Let's hope that DC puts in another fight when it releases Wonder Woman later this year.

Logan is still screening in cinemas. Wonder Woman premieres June 2, 2017.
