It looks like Laurence Fishburne's Perry White won't be returning in DC's Justice League and while The Matrix star gives a pretty valid reason why the newspaperman won't be in the hopeful DC Expanded Universe come back, the Hollywood star also gives DC a pretty sharp kick with an awfully critical comment on Batman vs Superman.
Speaking with the LA Times (via Comic Book Movie) to promote John Wick: Chapter 2, Fishburn revealed that his DC character wouldn't be making a return in Justice League and later on commented on the DC Expanded Universe's poor performance.
"They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn't work it out, schedule-wise," the actor explained. "And really, what do you need the newspaperman in Justice League for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern."
"We've been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I've been waiting to see these people on-screen forever."
Fishburne could probably ignite another war between DC fans and Marvel fans again, however the Hollywood star comes back with a few good words for Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder.
"Look, I love what Zack Snyder does. Jesse Eisenberg, this little nebbishy guy, as Lex Luthor? For me, that's a genius move. And the whole thing with Martha Kent and Martha Wayne? I don't know, man, I must be sentimental but that's some heartwarming [stuff] to me. So I don't get it.
Yes, DC didn't do very well last year with the release of the stern and divisive Batman vs. Superman and the severely lacking spinoff movie Suicide Squad, however fans are still hoping that the DCEU picks itself up with this year's next line of films.
Wonder Woman is slated for release on June 2 this year while Justice League drops in cinemas later on November 17 this year.
