Kylo Ren Turns Out To Be More Evil Than We Thought

Kylo Ren has a lot of anger issues in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but there seemed to be a glimmer of hope in his path to the Dark Side. Apparently, however, the villain was much further along that path than fans realized.

As part of the coverage of The Force Awakens' home release in America today, Entertainment Weekly interviewed J.J. Abrams to ask for more details from the movie. They talked about the scene where Kylo Ren slams his helmet down into a pool of ashes piled on a table in the interrogation room on Starkiller Base, and Abrams revealed what those ashes actually were.

The backstory is, that that table has the ashes of the enemies he's killed. That moment was actually shot for, and meant to be used in, the scene where he was talking to the Vader mask.

Many assumed that Kylo Ren just smashed the ashen husk on Darth Vader's helmet to bits with his own headgear, but it's actually a pile of ashes from the burned bodies of people he killed. How did Ben Solo get so messed up?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now availalbe on Blu-Ray/DVD, and Digital HD. Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released in theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
