Earlier this month, Magic: The Gathering Arena player Chris Kvartek went undefeated in day one of Mythic Championship V, and after finishing top sixteen of the Magic Arena Mythic Championship Qualifiers (MCQ) this past Sunday, he is set to return in MCVII this December at Long Beach, California.

Kvartek was one of the few MCQ players who decided not to play "Oko, Thief of Crowns", the oppressive Planeswalker dominating the Standard format right now. During Day 2 of the MCQ, 68 out of 102 decks played Oko, and out of the Top 16, Kvartek was one of the five players who didn't play a deck with the overpowered planeswalker.

Kvartek also played three copies of "Rankle, Master of Pranks", a card from Throne of Eldraine that could fly past Oko's threats the turn it comes into play.

Having two copies of "Liliana, Dreadhorde General" and three copies of "Vraska, Golgari Queen" also help him clear out annoying threats on the board while establishing a stronger position. Four copies of "Murderous Rider" can also target Oko or any other big threats.

Congrats to Kvartek for his Top 16 finish, and now he is now qualified to compete at the Mythic Championship VII on Dec. 6-8 for his share of the $750,000 prize pool.
