Kong: Skull Island Post-Credits Scene Shows a Bigger Monster Universe

Spoiler alert from those who had seen its previews: Kong: Skull Island has a post-credit scene which reveals the bigger picture of the monster universe it inhabits. Expect the introduction of age-old giant creatures, and the return of the king of them all: Godzilla.

In this final scene as recounted by Comic Book Resources, James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston) and Mason Weaver (Brie Larson) are in an interrogation room, trying to explain to skeptical authorities that they did encounter a giant intelligent age on Skull Island. After the two almost run out of breath and words, a door opens and a couple of characters from Monarch comes in.

Monarch is the scientific and wealthy conglomeration that has tracked and studied Godzilla for decades in the 2014 movie.

The two Monarch gentlemen tell Conrad and Weaver that Kong is not the only "king of the monsters around." They show the two cave paintings depicting the birth of his contemporaries like the winged Mothra, the pterodactyl-like Rodan, and the ruthless King Ghidora.

These cave paintings reveal that these creatures have known of each other's existence for a very long time. And ultimately, they will do battle as they did in the past.

The last cave painting that is shown is an all-out war between Godzilla and King Ghidorah.

As Conrad and Weaver mull over this last drawing along with the audience, the screen cuts to black. And Godzilla's loud and angry roar resonates throughout the theater.

Legendary Pictures has obviously set the stage for the ultimate confrontation of these monsters, with the world and its millions of citizens as potential collateral damage. It also seems to have lined up the final conflict between Godzilla and King Ghidorah. It's true these two are awesome - but will Kong just stay out of this fight and let the two of them duke it out?

On that note, maybe we should also ask ourselves: who are the "good" or at least human-friendly monsters? And who are those that just want us for their supper?

Kong: Skull Island is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and will open in cinemas on March 10. It stars Tom Hiddleston, John Goodman, Brie Larson, and Samuel L. Jackson.
