Kingsman’s Taron Egerton is Playing Elton John in the Biopic Rocketman

Kingsman: The Golden Circle had a surprise cameo from rock star Elton John, and now news as it that the star of that film, Taron Egerton, is now set to play John himself in a biopic about his life titled Rocketman.

According to Deadline, Dexter Fleitcher, who directed Egerton in Eddie the Eagle, is attached to direct the film which will be distributed by Paramount. It's interesting since Fleitcher is also the director who was hired to replace Bryan Singer for Bohemian Rhapsody, a Queen biopic which has Rami Malek playing Freddie Mercury.

Though we haven't seen much of Egerton's singing talent onscreen, he did lend his voice to Johnny the Gorilla in 2016's Sing movie. Some people close to him can also attest to his singing talent, and say that he can do justice to some Elton John classics.

Rocketman will be utilizing a script from Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) and will also have Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn attached as producer. Elton John will also be producing himself with David Furnish onboard as well.

There was no release date mentioned for Rocketman, but if this movie were to start production after the release of Bohemian Rhapsody, then we could probably expect it to release sometime in 2020.
