Though she's going to be introduced in the second movie, a lot of people feel that Kelly Marie Tran's Rose will be one of the new main characters of the franchise; but as it turns out, Tran still has no idea if Rose will be making a return in Star Wars Episode IX.
Sitting down with ScreenRant, Tran explained:
"First of all, I don't know if I'm in IX or not (Hums Twilight Zone theme) but I would like her to. First of all, I really and Rian has said this before, I think his idea behind writing this character was the idea like in many of the other films that essentially someone who is kind of this nobody, this background player, can face the challenges that come up and nobody can turn into sort of an unlikely hero. Maybe. If the story were to move forward with this character I would like to hope that we like further that idea, yeah."
Tran's inclusion may have to depend on how well the audience receives her character upon release. Surely Jar Jar could have been included in the prequels more had the fans not hated him so much. In a sense, Rose could be the sequel trilogy's Lando Calrissian—a character introduced in the second film that will join the main cast of characters.
Though we've seen a lot of images of Rose, we have yet to see her talk in the trailers at all. Judging by all the stern looks she gives Finn, it's obvious that she's somewhat a reluctant participant in the fight of the Resistance against the First Order.
We'll finally get to meet Rose when Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters Dec. 15.
