So what is happening in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City? Kaya Scodelario told Screenrant that director Johannes Roberts "was really adamant about making it a survival horror picture" and that can be seen throughout the film. However, Roberts also wanted to make sure that fans of the video games had something to watch out for.

"There were days on set where we took a lot of time to focus on building tensions in the scene and building atmosphere as opposed to big car crash sequences or anything like that because that's what we feel the fans really want and have really kind of missed and haven't had in a film adaptation before," Scodelario said. She then added that Roberts is "a true fan of the games" and that the filmmaker made sure to put in as many references to Resident Evil as possible.

"His heart is really in it, and so we've peppered in a lot of Easter eggs and little subtle details that the true gamers will know and will see, and, hopefully, will make them feel quite nostalgic," Scodelario said.

For now, the trailer for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City seems to confirm it's a true horror film but is also careful to stay true to the video games. Hopefully, this is exactly what we'll get in the movie.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City also stars Hannah John-Kamen, Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia, Donal Logue, and Neal McDonough. The film will hit theaters on November 24, 2021.
