Though Cyborg may have been a regular fixture in DC comics for a while, a big chunk of his popularity has come from Cartoon Network's anime-inspired Teen Titans cartoon. The cartoon version of Cyborg had the catchphrase "Booyah!" in the show, and a new promo has Ray Fisher's Cyborg saying the same line:
Fisher has commented before that he'll be borrowing "Booyah!" for his performance on Justice League. He has also admitted that he was a fan of Cyborg from the cartoon, but for Cyborg's live-action debut, Fisher says he'll be bringing a "Cyborg for a new era."
Personally, I'm hoping that we get a Teen Titans movie instead of a Cyborg standalone. Though Victor Stone is now part of an all-adult Justice League, who's to say he can't team-up with an old Robin and form his own superteam? Maybe the DCEU's Nightwing had a group called the Teen Titans, and Cyborg decided to revive the team for himself. DCEU needs a Beast Boy!
The catchphrase is a fun nod to the cartoon, and now with all the nostalgia hitting me, I kind of wish they borrowed more elements from the cartoon Cyborg and applied it to the live-action version. I mean, the CGI definitely looks amazing, but his skin looks like he's a character from a video game that hasn't fully rendered yet. I just want a bit more blue in there.
Hopefully Cyborg ends up impressing old and new fans alike. Catch him when Justice League hits theaters Nov. 17.
