Justice League: Opening Scene Was Joss Whedon's; Was Originally More Comedic

With Joss Whedon taking over Justice League for Zack Snyder, a lot of fans are speculating on the movie and wondering who directed which scene. As it turns out, the opening was all Whedon, and Syder's version was initially more comedic.

In an interview with Men's Fitness, Holt McCallany talks the original opening for the film:

"I love Joss Whedon. My scene with Batman was originally conceived as a comedic scene. That's how Joss wrote it, and that's how we shot it. I thought it came out great, but the studio felt it would be a mistake to open the film with a completely comedic scene, so it was re-edited a little bit. I was disappointed, but when I got home to New York I found a bottle of my favorite Champagne and a note from Joss that said ‘To Battles Lost. Gratefully, Joss.' I can't tell you how much it meant to me that he took the time to write to me. Joss Whedon is a class act. I had the letter framed."

In the film, McCallany was a common thief which the Batman used to bait a parademon from hiding. With McCallany a recognizable face in his own right, I was hoping he was a significant Batman villain. Maybe we'll get to see him again in a future movie.

As it stands, a lot of DCEU fans were not really pleased with what Joss Whedon has brought to the table and are clamoring for the release of Zack Snyder's cut of the film. The online petition has already amassed more than 70,000 signatures, and it may only be a matter of time before Warner Bros decides to release it.
