Justice League, Logan, Thor: Ragnarok, and More Considered For Oscar Nominations

Some of the Oscar nominations are out and a number of superhero films might be getting the nod for best visual effects, which isn't a huge surprise at this point. Comic book movies have always been relegated to that nomination since their stories are usually not that deep or complex. That being said, one actor in a superhero film could get the prestigious Best Supporting Actor nomination, which hasn't been done since The Dark Knight.

For Best Visual Effects, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, and Spider-Man: Homecoming have all been considered for nominations. Most of these films sure do look the part and it will be interesting to see which one gets it, in the end, assuming the oscar does go to a superhero film of course. Blade Runner 2049, Alien: Covenant, Dunkirk, and much more are also nominated for the award, so it could go to another movie altogether. There are 20 films considered for the nomination after all, with 10 being chosen in the end.

The big surprise comes with Patrick Stewart's consideration for Best Supporting Actor nomination with his portrayal of Charles Xavier in Logan. While it's a bit of a bummer that Hugh Jackman didn't get a Best Actor consideration, Stewart did do a really good job portraying Charles at his weakest. Logan is easily the best superhero film of the year, though some would argue that it's Wonder Woman.

Will any of these films get the nomination? Suicide Squad did win the Best Makeup award over Star Trek: Beyond, so anything can happen.
