Justice League Helps Push Chinese Box Office To A New National Record

Justice League might not be doing so well in the domestic box office, but the DC Extended Universe superhero team-up movie is certainly making waves in China.

Not only did the film start out with a solid $52.1 million during its opening weekend in the country, but according to the LA Times, Justice League's debut sales in China also helped the nation's box office set a new record in terms of 2017 ticket revenues.

Justice League's opening weekend haul helped push China's box office past $7.55 billion – a significant increase from the country's 2016 box office earnings which ran around $6.58 billion. That's a pretty big 15% jump.

Despite its strength in cinemas abroad, Justice League's total opening haul is still 10% lower than Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film's been having a pretty hard time in cinemas in the US, not only has the film been having the worst opening weekend in the history of the DCEU but it's also been flooded by a lot of negative reviews from critics.

While a number of fans feel like the film's one of the most entertaining installments in Warner Brother's burgeoning superhero franchise, a lot of professional reviews criticize the film for being "a mess." So far these reviews have been affecting the box office sales of the film and it looks like the film's going to have an uphill battle as it continues its run in theaters. Let's just hope for the better.
