Jurassic World Tops The Avengers As The Third Highest Grossing Film Ever

The dinosaur blockbuster Jurassic World overtook The Avengers as the third highest-grossing film at the global box office, Variety reports.

The film hit $1.522 billion this week, topping The Avengers' $1.520 billion; domestically, Jurassic World has pulled $614.3 million. This isn't the first time Jurassic World beat the Avengers, either. Following a huge opening weekend, the film topped Marvel's hit on the largest per-theater average for a wide release.

Jurassic World's global record still puts it well below the two highest-grossing films —Titanic at $2.186 billion and Avatar, which sits at $2.788 billion.
