Joss Whedon Wants To Direct A Female-Focused Marvel Movie

Legendary filmmaker Joss Whedon has had profound influence on the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his work on Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. It's unfortunate that the director left Marvel to work on small-scale projects, but thankfully, Whedon recently admitted that he is willing to work on a new Marvel movie – on certain conditions that is.

In an interview with The Wrap, Whedon said he's interested in helming another MCU film if such film is a female-oriented one. He explained:

Yeah, of course [I'd be into that]. Although I tend more towards the Jessica Jones-ey kind of stories than the delightful Supergirl stories that my daughter wants.

Then again, he's not just into any female hero. Whedon said he's interested if the story of the female character is a gritty one, unlike the campy texture of the TV series, Supergirl. He even compared his directorial desire to Marvel's Jessica Jones, with its violent and gritty approach he's very much drawn into.

There aren't much female-oriented superhero films currently in slate at Marvel. In fact, there is none. However, the possibility is certainly there. Marvel President Kevin Feige recently said that the studio is considering a Black Widow solo film and it's also been reported last week that Marvel might be making a Captain Marvel movie. The studio is already eyeing an independent female director to possibly helm Captain Marvel, so that leaves Whedon to the Black Widow movie.

It actually makes perfect sense. Whedon has worked with Scarlett Johansson on his two Avengers films. If there's anyone who can bring out Natasha Romanoff's dark history, it's the legendary filmmaker. The time is certainly ripe and we're keeping our fingers crossed for this possibility.
