John Williams Returning To Score Star Wars: Episode VIII, Indiana Jones 5 & Ready Player One

The American Film Institute held a red carpet event honoring the legendary composer John Williams (Star Wars, Harry Potter, Superman) with a lifetime achievement award, and the 84-year-old Williams, whose work on all seven Star Wars films and four Indiana Jones films are career-definin, took the chance to assure fans that he would return to score for Lucasfilm's next installments of both franchises.

Williams confirmed in a recent interview with Variety that he will be scoring Spielberg's Ready Player One next - on Novemberand then hopes to begin with the Star Wars sequel if he's able to. "If I can do it, I certainly will," Williams told Variety of his commitment to work on the music for Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII, currently filming. "I told Kathy Kennedy I'm happy to do it, but the real reason is, I didn't want anybody else writing music for Daisy Ridley."

The legendary director Steven Spielberg also confirmed the news of Williams' return for the Indiana Jones franchise:

It looks like Williams isn't retiring anytime soon. Although I'm not a huge fan of work on The Force Awakens, I'm looking forward to hear his works in these epic films.

Star Wars: Episode VIII will hit theaters on December 15, 2017; Ready Player One is scheduled to hit theaters on March 30, 2018; Indiana Jones 5 is set to release on July 19, 2019.
