John Boyega Talks About How The Last Jedi Sends Off Carrie Fisher's General Organa

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the very last film where fans are going to get to see Carrie Fisher on the big screen and sequel trilogy star John Boyega promises that the Force Awakens sequel will, in a way, immortalize the spirited princess from a galaxy far, far away.

Hearts all over broke when Fisher unexpectedly passed away back in December last year. Not only did the The Star Wars legend's death leave a gaping hole in the community, it also left a hole in the franchise sequel trilogy. Lucasfilm had intended to center Star Wars: Episode IX around General Organa, but without Fisher, the studio had been forced to change its plans and instead send the Resistance General off in The Last Jedi.

Though Lucasfilm promises fans that it'll give Carrie the send off she deserves in The Last Jedi, the studio hasn't really divulged how they'd write General Organa off the sequel trilogy.

Unfortunately for the Lucasfilm, Boyega let slip a few details about Carrie's send off after being asked by about his working relationship with the Star Wars Legend on Popcorn with Peter Travers.

"This movie, it sends her off in a very amazing, amazing way. She's still kept alive in this franchise. You know, that's the beauty of it, she lives forever in a sense."

While Boyega's answer doesn't really tell us the specifics of how The Last Jedi writers Princess Leia out of the sequel trilogy it does tell us that Lucasfilm won't be killing her off in The Force Awakens sequel. This gives the studio room for the franchise to close Leia's story more firmly in future installments.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas December 15, 2017.
