Joel Schumacher Apologizes For Batman & Robin Close To The Movie's 20th Anniversary

It seems that no matter what Joel Schumacher does, he'll always be remembered as the guy who directed one of the worst Batman movies to date—Batman & Robin. With the movie reaching its 20th Anniversary this coming June 20, Schumacher has something to say for all the fans who thought Batman & Robin was terrible.

In an interview with Vice, Schumacher admits:

"Look, I apologize. I want to apologize to every fan that was disappointed because I think I owe them that."

Some people have thought that Batman & Robin was responsible for killing the franchise back in the 90s before Christopher Nolan revived it with Batman Begins back in 2005. Schumacher also admits how different the audiences have become ever since the movie released, and is appreciative of how we can all enjoy more mature superhero movies now.

He says:

"It's really interesting to me, because if you see Tim's and my [films], you'd understand how innocent the audience was back then when it demanded to have more of a family-friendly Batman. Then when you see Christopher Nolan's trilogy, the last one especially where he's dealing with real class and economic problems, you see how the audience has changed in the fact that they can accept and want darker and darker subject matter."

Schumacher has had quite the rough tumble ever since Batman & Robin, and it seems like it's something that a lot of fan boys aren't going to let go. He hasn't directed any project since a few House of Cards episodes in 2013, and his last memorable movie was the Gerard Butler-helmed Phantom of the Opera—and I didn't even know he directed that movie till I looked it up!

We don't know what he's doing now, but Schumacher's 1990 movie Flatliners is getting a reboot/sequel coming out in September. Check it out:
