Joel Kinnaman Comments on How the Suicide Squad Sequel Should Improve Upon the Original

Though the movie was a critical bomb, DCEU's Suicide Squad still had a successful run in the box office, and the sequel is setting up for a release in 2019. Joel Kinnaman, who plays Rick Flagg in the movie, talks about the sequel, and how he thinks it will be more grounded this time around.

Talking to Yahoo! while promoting his upcoming Netflix series, Altered Carbon, Kinnaman explains:

"It was a great set-up. Great characters. I think that when we do a second one I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see more of a grounded version of the film. I think the characters are so extreme, so I think it could be more effective if we're seeing them with maybe less sorcery. Because the characters become more extreme if you see them in conjunction with more real people."

It would make sense for the Squad to go after a more human villain, counting that a lot of its members are also just regular humans. How exactly do Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang stand a chance against someone like Enchantress?

For now, Gavin O'Conner is expected to take over for David Ayer. No story has been released for the movie, but rumors are going around that Captain Marvel's rival Black Adam will be the main villain for this film. Of course, those are just rumors; I'm still open to seeing someone a bit less supernatural play the antagonist. How about Vandal Savage?

No release date has been announced for Suicide Squad 2, but everyone is expecting a 2019 release.
