Jodie Foster Bashes Superhero Films Saying It’s “Ruining” Cinema

There have been a lot of superhero movies popping up during the past few years, and while some are glad for big superhero franchises like Marvel and the recently formed DC Extended Universe, Academy Award-winning actress Jodie Foster has nothing but contempt for the film genre.

Sitting down to speak with the Radio Times (via Daily Mail), Foster openly slammed comic book movies, saying that the genre is ruining cinema.

"Going to the movies has become like a theme park," the actress lamented. "Studios making bad content in order to appeal to the masses and shareholders is like fracking – you get the best return right now but you wreck the earth."

According to the actress who just recently directed the "Arkangel" episode of the fourth season of Netflix's Black Mirror, she wouldn't want to make "$200m movies about superheroes."

"It's ruining the viewing habits of the American population and ultimately the rest of the world," Foster continued.

Despite her strong opinion on the superhero genre, Foster does say that she'd consider having a superhero protagonist if they had a "really complex psychology."

While it is true that cinema has been saturated with comic book movies, Foster probably missed out on good superhero movies, like Logan and Wonder Woman. Guess it's just not her cup of tea.
