J.J. Abrams Confirms Kylo Ren is 'Not a Sith' in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars: The Force Awakens' villain Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is definitely one of the most intriguing characters we've seen in the Star Wars saga. He looks so badass with his Revan-like mask, dark outfit, and the ragged crossguard lightsaber, but how come he doesn't have the title 'Darth'?

It turns out that the answer to that is simple: . "Kylo Ren is not a Sith," confirms JJ Abrams in the new issue of Empire. "He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.".

For those of you haven't heard of Snoke, he's the digitally created character being played by Andy Serkis. Remember that growling voice from the first teaser of The Force Awakens? That's him speaking. We still don't know what the character looks like, but I hope we the next trailer will give us a glimpse of him.

"That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?'" Abrams says. "What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn't get done?"

There's still a lot of mystery about Kylo Ren despite the revelation ofinteresting details about his origin and the Knights of Ren. Some fans speculate that his real name is Jacen Solo, but we'll have to wait and see.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in theaters on December 18.
