Jean Grey Rises From The Ashes In December's 'Phoenix Resurrection: The Return Of Jean Grey'

After more than a decade, Marvel is finally bringing back the original Jean Grey this December in a new series called Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey. The series will be helmed by Secret Warriors writer Matthew Rosenburg and acclaimed artist Leinil Francis Yu. It's the perfect Christmas gift for X-Men fans, one that's been a long time coming.

Jean was killed during the Planet X storyline of New X-Men by Magneto, though that was later retconned to Xorn. She briefly came back in the mini-series X-Men: Phoenix Endsong, but has stayed dead since. A younger version of the character was brought to the present timeline during Brian Michael Bendis' All-New X-Men and has stayed there ever since, despite a few attempts by others.

Here is the official solicitation from the leaked Diamond Distribution catalog, that has since been deleted (via Bleeding Cool):

She will return, like a Phoenix from the ashes.
Years ago, Jean Grey died and the X-Men mourned her. Since then, the world has changed, her teammates have lived without her and died without her. And now, when strange events start happening all over the world, those teammates can only come to one conclusion – the one true Jean Grey is back!

It's worth noting that the original Cyclops and Wolverine have died as well. Wolverine lost his healing factor during Paul Cornell's run with the character, and was engulfed in Adamantium while trying to stop another Weapon X project during the Death of Wolverine story. Cyclops was killed by the Terrigen Mists during Death of X, which resulted in a mutant/inhuman war caused by Emma Frost, who wanted revenge.

How will Jean come back? And how will the young Jean Grey react to this? Fans will find out in December's Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey #1.
