Warning: possible spoilers ahead

We learn about the new plot info when Mon Mothma tells Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) that they've "intercepted an encoded Imperial transmission" about an upcoming "weapons test," which is obviously referring to the Death Star. Then Captain Cassian Andor reveals the new info: "The message was sent by your father."

Jyn's father Galen Erso is being played by Mads Mikkelsen, and we've heard some rumored details about the character.

Mads Mikkelsen (Galen appears to be his name in the film) is kind of the key to the film in a way. He is a scientist that took over the Geonosian Death Star project. Oppenheimer helped design the atomic bomb only to say, “Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” The guilt “Galen” feels for his contributions to the Empire become too much and he defects, attempting to make things right. In order to do this, he enlists the help of his only daughter….

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
