James Wan On Why Aquaman Wears Leather Pants Underwater

DC fans might have been wowed by the new Aquaman poster as soon as it dropped online, but despite all of its color, some just couldn't get pas a few problems with the new art piece. Why was Arthur Curry's (Jason Momoa) head not wet even though he's supposed to be under water? Why does that shark in the right look a whole lot like a stock photo of a great white? And why in the world is Arthur Curry wearing leather pants under water?

Taking to Twitter, one fan decidedly pointed out that he just didn't quite understand why Momoa would wear pants in the deep blue sea and it seems like Aquaman director James Wan had a pretty quick and simple explanation for the leathery debacle.

"Because he's Jason Foockin' Moma!!!" the filmmaker replied. "You want him to wear swimming trunks."

Wan does have a good point. Who'd want to see a hero wearing swimming trunks in a comic book movie? Besides, aesthetically speaking, Momoa looks pretty great his leather pants, and in the poster, the leather's shimmer adds to the watery feel of the whole art piece. Sure, it might not make sense for anyone to wear leather underwater, but, let's face it, this is film and the director needs to get a specific look right. We're pretty sure that if Wan had spandex on or a more water-friendly type of cloth, it wouldn't produce the same kind of wild and bad-ass effect that the leather pants does.
