James Gunn Unveils Story Elements for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Some fans who attended San Diego Comic-Con 2016 had the chance to see some cool and funny footage from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that involved Groot helping Rocket and Yondu escape a ravager jail cell, but we still have no idea what themes that sequel will focus on. But during one of Vin Diesel's live video sessions on Facebook with James Gunn, the director revealed some story elements that deal with the female characters of the film.

Here's what Gunn had to say:

"I really feel like we give the female characters a chance to shine in this movie because Zoe Saldana comes in and she is so wonderfully beautiful as her character. It's touching, and Karen Gillan as Nebula comes in, and she's her sister, and she's completely a much deeper character than we got in the first movie, so we get to know her."

Diesel added:

"That character, the sisterhood that you explore in this movie is something we haven't seen in film. We definitely haven't seen it in this level of film."

Gunn went on to compare the themes of the first film and the sequel:

"And that's one of the things that this movie is about... the first movie was really about becoming a family. This movie is about being a family. And what's harder, becoming a family or being a family? I think it's being a family. That's where you really haven't to deal with each other. And that's what this movie is about. And their sisters. They are family, whether they like it or not. And they also want to kill each other, so it adds a new twist to being a sister."

That's good to know that the relationship between Gamora and Nebula will be further developed in the sequel. It would be interesting to see Nebula team up with the good guys this time around.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
