Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has repeatedly pointed out how the film will strictly focus on Marvel heroes in outer space, so you can understand why fanboys flipped out when the filmmaker, and avid Marvel fan, shared this photo on Facebook where he's holding Mjolnir, Thor's might hammer.
From the filmmaker's interviews over the past few months, fans have caught up to the director's teases and hints as to who will and will not be featured in the movie.
We know that the Guardians will not come across Thanos or the Infinity Stones again, we know there will be an emotional scene between Kurt Russell and Chris Pratt, and we know that Pom Klementieff's Mantis will probably have her antennae in the film.
However, we don't know whether Thor, or any Avenger for that matter, will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The director has vehemently denied any other superhero's appearance in the movie in a Facebook Live video, saying: "Will we see any other superheroes in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 from Avengers? NO! You will not."
Nevertheless, Thor is technically a god, even though he is a superhero. He also teased a crossover with the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 back in early April. Asked by a fan as to why there is no "Guardian" in Avengers: Age of Ultron or in Captain America: Civil War, Gunn responded by saying that the Guardians are simply "currently in a different galaxy."
In any case, he did tease in the video above that he could appear at San Diego Comic-Con this year, so further details on Thor's appearance will likely be cleared there.
Well, whether or not Thor will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, one thing's for sure, and that is the fact that James Gunn is worthy. All Marvel fans know that.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017. The film still has two weeks of filming left.
