James Gunn Shares Mantis with Antenna Sketch for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Marvel has been known to take leaps and risks when it comes to its films, so much so that some of the comics' storylines and characters are changed and sometimes omitted to fit the films' plots.

Well, there's good news for fans of Marvel Comics' Mantis. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn recently shared a storyboard with a sketch of Mantis with her antennae on.

The director updated fans with the photo on Facebook, with the caption:

It's already #‎WhatWeShotWednesday. We've had an amazing week on‪#‎GotGVol2 - in fact I'd say the past two weeks may have been some of the most fruitful of my life. @pomin8r and Kurt Russell have been bringing it hard, and our DP Henry Braham has been killing it as well. It's wonderful having a great cast and crew, all one hundred percent committed to the cause.
Today we shot this little piece. A certain new character may be somewhat obvious, the others not quite so much (and, I should add, please don't mistake my storyboard character shorthand for actual character design - another character in the film is presented throughout with a stovetop hat just so I know who he is!)

In Abnett and Lanning's popular Guardians of the Galaxy comics, Mantis has telepathic and precognitive skills, which Star-Lord uses in the comics to form the team.

Mantis will be played by Pom Klementieff in Guardians of the GalaxyVol. 2

While Gunn did say that his "storyboard character" isn't actual character design, it would be exciting to see a Mantis with antenna in the movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5.
