Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hasn't even been released yet, but apparently Marvel is already planning for the next installment of James Gunn's series.
The 45-year-old director revealed as much during a recent live broadcast on his official Facebook account while having some down time on his trailer on Pinewood Studios.
Gunn provided the insight after a fan asked him if he wants to make films outside of comic books.
The director said:
Right now I really am just concerned with doing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I'm not sure what I'm going to do after this… Marvel has talked to me about continuing on. I'm not sure if that's what I want to do or if that's not what I want to do.
I really just want to make Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the greatest possible movie that I can, and something that's as honest and sincere and true as it can possibly be.

It appears like Marvel wants Gunn to continue to work on the series, even if the filmmaker hasn't decided fully whether or not he'll be moving forward with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Right now, the current arc of Marvel movies are slated to wrap up by 2019. Marvel's contracts with their current stars will also be expiring at that time, so it's likely that while current franchises are expiring in 2019, Marvel doesn't want to end Guardians just yet. Personally, I have no idea how Marvel is planning to expand the series after 2020, but if the Guardians of the Galaxy became such a success, with Vol. 2 promising to be one as well, there can be no doubt that audiences will welcome any further expansion of the series.
They could be planning on creating standalone films for members of the Guardians team.
