James Gunn Hints Out An LGBTQ Protagonist In Guardians Of The Galaxy 2

Diversity has become a big issue in Hollywood and media. Though Marvel has been a little bit slow on diversity with DC beating the studio in the race to having its first ever female-led feature film and then by SabansPower Ranger's in featuring an openly LGBTQ superhero, it seems like the studio is planning to catch up through Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Speaking with the Press Association (via Yahoo Movies!), Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn hinted out that he had actually featured a gay protagonist in the sequel to his popular superhero space romp.

When asked whether had ever considered in bringing a LGBTQ protagonist to the big screen through the Guardians of the Galaxy film franchise during the world premiere of the film in Hollywood, Gunn's response was:

"Absolutely. I would love to be able to. We might have already done that. I say watch the movie. Check it out. See what you think."

Could it be Pom Klementieff's Mantis? Or Karen Gillan's Nebula? Zoe Saldana's Gamora is definitely off the list since she's being built up as a love interest for Chris Pratt's dancing Star Lord. Oh well, guesswork can be tricky. Still, we won't have to wait for long to find out – after all the film premieres in a little less than a week from now.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to premiere on May 5, 2017.
