James Gunn Had To Fight With Marvel To Keep Guardians of The Galaxy’s Soundtrack

There's a lot to love about Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, but one of the best things about James Gunn's Marvel films are their brilliant humor and their colorful 70's and 80's soundtrack. Sure, Marvel has managed to build a strong and successful franchise, but fans have always found the studio's movies lacking in terms of music – until Guardians of the Galaxy that is.

However, bringing nostalgic music to the superhero space movie wasn't all that easy. Sitting down with Vanity Fair, Gunn reveals that he had fought with the Marvel creative committee just so that he could have retro music in the very first Guardians of the Galaxy.

For those who aren't that familiar with the group, Marvel Studios' creative committee is actually the group in charge of reading Marvel's many scripts and offering feedback to the studio. According to Gunn, the group was comprised of comic-book writers and toy people and apparently the notes they handed about the film was nothing short of "haphazard."

Of course Gunn is right. Sure, Guardians of the Galaxy has its wit and its charming lead stars like Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, but without its music, the film would just be like any other Marvel movie.

The Guardians of the Galaxy are set to reprise their roles in Avengers: Infinity War on May 04, 2018.
