James Gunn: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Will Explore Rocket Raccoon's Origin

Though Guardians of the Galaxy is considered an ensemble piece, you can't help but realize that the only character that is explored the most is Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord. With director James Gunn working on a third Guardians movie, he promises that we'll be seeing more on the origin of fan-favorite, Rocket Raccoon.

During a panel at Hasbro's HASCON (via MCU Exchange), Gunn explains:

"As you know, the MCU is one way of processing these characters. 616 is a different one. We are going to learn more about where Rocket comes from in the coming sagas. It's going to be a little different from the comics. We already know a lot about from where he came from. It's a little bit more horrible than what it is in the comics when you come down to it. We will learn more about that."

So far, we know that Gunn has been changing some of mythos between characters to make it work for his movies. In the comics, Rocket came from a planet full of talking animals called Halfworld. In his MCU origin, Rocket was a heavily-experimented on to become an efficient fighter/pilot/technician, making him the only one of his kind.

Though we may not know much about Rocket now, there's definitely a lot of room for Gunn to play around with his next movie. Knowing how Rocket is often touchy about his origins, it will probably be something tragic and emotional when it gets revealed.

No official release date has been announced for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
