James Gunn: Disney/Fox Deal Won't Mess With Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’s Story

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was another success for Marvel, and they've tapped James Gunn to write and direct a final Guardians movie. With the Disney/Fox deal pushing through and the Guardians having some connection with Fox characters, some fans ask Gunn if the deal could affect Vol. 3's story.

Gunn gives us a short answer:

It seems that Gunn has already planned a layout for the movie even before the deal was being reported about; I won't be surprised, however, if some Fox characters would make some cameos in Guardians 3. Maybe we can even get a cameo from Galactus or the Silver Surfer; maybe even the most popular Watcher, Uatu.

It's also worth noting that X-Men member Shadowcat a.k.a. Kitty Pryde has a romance with Star-Lord going on in the comics—they even went so far as to make her a Guardian and give the pair their own series.

With Vol. 2 teasing us the possibility of a Star-Lord/Gamora romance, I'm not expecting Kitty Pryde to make any appearances. Whenever Marvel decides to introduce the X-Men and Fantastic Four to the MCU, maybe they can have their new Kitty have a small interaction with Star-Lord—that is, if Chris Pratt is still playing the role at that time.

For now, we can expect Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to come out sometime in 2020.
