James Franco Starring As Multiple Man In X-Men Spinoff; Are We Getting An X-Factor Movie?

A lot of comic book movie fans probably know James Franco the best for starring in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies as Harry Osborn, and though his run as Harry may have ended back in 2007, Franco looks to be coming back to comic book movies with Marvel Fox.

According to Deadline, Fox is developing a movie based on the mutant character Multiple Man and they want James Franco to be the lead star. Franco is said to be onboard as producer alongside Simon Kinberg, and the movie will be scripted by Wonder Woman co-screenwriter Allan Heinberg.

Looking at the comics, I think Fox is developing an X-Factor movie. Back in 2005, Peter David rebranded X-Factor as a mutant detective agency with Multiple Man Jamie Madrox in the lead. The series drew some critical acclaim, but also some controversy after establishing a homosexual relationship between characters Rictor and Shatterstar—a move criticized by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld.

With Franco's involvement, I'm guessing this movie is going to turn out as an ensemble action-comedy, but that's just my best guess. With X-Men being the traditional comic book film, and New Mutants delving into horror, I'm guessing Fox wants to make a comedy action movie that isn't R-rated like Deadpool.

No release date has been set for the James Franco-led X-Men Spinoff.
