It’s Official: The Kid From Iron Man 2 Is A Young Peter Parker

Here's a fun fact for you. Iron Man 2 is already 7-years-old, and the movie has this little throw-away scene where a kid in an Iron Man mask is about to be attacked by a Hammer Drone right before the actual Iron Man swoops in to save the day. What if I told you that, that kid was actually a 9-year-old Peter Parker?

What started out as a fan theory became canon when Tom Holland confirmed it with the Huffington Post. Here's the exchange:

"It is Peter Parker," said Holland.

"It is?" we asked.

"I can confirm that, that is Peter Parker," Holland said.

"No way, for sure?" we asked again.

"I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I've just done a big, old spoiler, but it's out there now," said Holland. "It's cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning."

This is incredibly interesting since Marvel Studios' approach when it came to rebooting Spider-Man was to establish that he's been in the universe this whole time. During a panel at CinemaCOn (via MoviePilot), Kevin Feige had said:

"The idea, is this: he's been there the whole time. Peter Parker was 5 when Tony Stark said ‘I'm Iron Man.' He was 9 when aliens showed up in New York City, battling the Avengers. And then he was bitten by a radioactive spider…"

The interesting thing about Peter Parker's character is that he actually got to witness the MCU unfold before his eyes ever since he was a kid. That puts him in a very unique position opposite all the older heroes of the Marvel Universe, which makes from some intriguing storytelling.

I also love how Iron Man will be sort of his mentor here in Homecoming, and that scene from Iron Man 2 just adds to Peter's backstory and his idolization of Iron Man.

I wonder if we get to see any of that explained in the movie.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7.
