It Takes Two Film Adaptation In the Works from Dwayne Johnson

We're now at the age where a lot of popular video games are getting on-screen adaptations in both film and television due to their appeal as recognizable IPs for the studios. So far, the results have just been mixed since some of them are successful while some of them just simply flopped. Now, it looks like another popular and award-winning video game is getting a film treatment and it will be produced by the biggest movie star in the world.

Variety has reported that a film adaptation of the video game It Takes Two is now being set up at Amazon Studios for priority development. Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia will produce on behalf of Seven Bucks Productions along with dj2 Entertainment. Johnson could also potentially star in the film although nothing is still official as of the moment.

Sonic the Hedgehog writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller will be writing the adaptation for the screen. Dmitri M. Johnson and Dan Jevons are producing for dj2 Entertainment. Josef Fares and Oskar Wolontis of Hazelight Studios, who developed the original game, will serve as executive producers.

In case you're not familiar, It Takes Two is a co-op action-adventure platform game that doesn't have a single-player mode as it is only playable between two players. It won multiple awards including Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2021 and has sold more than 5 million copies as of February 2022.

The story of the film adaptation "will follow May and Cody who, as they go through a divorce, find their minds transported into two dolls that their daughter, Rose, made to represent them. Now they must go on a wild and fantastical journey to find a way to get back into their bodies."

Given the popularity of the game, it is not surprising to hear that It Takes Two will be the next one that is getting the film adaptation treatment and there is a lot of potential that they can with the story of the game. It would be more interesting if Johnson also eventually attaches himself to star in the project since it could draw a lot more interest.
