Also known as “The Bisque Doll That Fell in Love”, My Dress-Up Darling is a manga series that was serialized in 2018 in Square Enix’s Young Gangan. It was illustrated and written by Shinichi Fukuda and centers on Wakana Gojo and Marin Kitagawa. Gojo is an aspiring hina doll craftsman while Marin wanted to cosplay her favorite anime and video game characters.
When Marin discovered Gojo’s talent, she did not hesitate to ask him to make a costume for her. Gojo, who has been making doll clothes all his life, was not sure how he can do it. But her tenacity inspired him so in the end, he agreed. The series got the attention of anime and manga fans alike. The question now is, is My Dress-Up Darling's manga complete, finished, or ongoing?

Is My Dress-Up Darling Manga Complete, Finished or Ongoing? Current Status
As of this writing, the manga is still ongoing. There are a total of eight volumes released so far with the latest on October 25, 2021.
The first six volumes already have an English counterpart while the remaining two are in the works. The English versions are published under Square Enix Manga & Books.
The success of My Dress-Up Darling’s manga was no joke. In 2019, it got 6th place in the “Comics category” on the fourth edition of Tsugini kuru Manga Taisho. In 2020, it got 3rd place in Honya Club’s Nationwide Bookstore Employee’s Recommended Comics 2020.
These achievements can be one of the many factors why CloverWorks decided to adapt the manga into an anime. The series made its premiere in 2022. What makes My Dress-Up Darling appeal to the fans is that it breaks gender stereotypes.
Marin and Gojo’s preferences are not the ones anime fans can expect. Gojo is in-love with a hina doll and aspires to be a hina dolls craftsman while Marin is into lewd anime and video games. Marin also emphasized that one’s likes should not be limited to one’s gender.
The story of My Dress-Up Darling is modern and timely. It gives hope to viewers that they can like whatever they are passionate about without worrying about what other people think. Since the manga is still ongoing, there is a chance that the series will tackle other issues concerning society.
