It's been over a year since we first saw the official trailer for the upcoming open-world RPG game Hogwarts Legacy, which takes place in the Wizarding World made famous in the Harry Potter movies. But the truth is, it has felt like more of an eternity! We only wish that we had a Time-Turner so that we can speed things up a little.
And while there has been virtually nothing in the way of news in that time, lately, there have been rumors about the game facing potential delays and not releasing until 2023, which would be devastating news for fans eager to forge their own destiny in the iconic Wizarding World.
Following its initial delay, it was reported that the game was set for release this year, and according to Warner Bros, would be released "some time" after Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. In November last year, Warner Bros General Manager Rachel Wakley said:
"The second major release of 2022 will be for a new console game: Hogwarts Legacy. The reaction to the trailer has been amazing and it looks set to be a huge success. We know that gaming is such an important part of the market and one that we had to be involved in. From what we've seen, the launch will be well worth the wait and will deliver a unique way for fans to interact with the franchise."
However, despite recent reports that the game may be facing new delays, it seems that it's still on track for 2022. According to a tweet from reliable leaker AccNGT, Hogwarts Legacy's 2022 release will go ahead, and that any delays will only be due to other major titles surrounding it, and not the actual development of the game.
Other tweets, including one from Warner Bros Brazil's official Twitter account, seem to verify the fact that the game will indeed be coming out later this year. But with all that said, it's probably best to take these things with a pinch of salt - at least until we hear something concrete from Warner Bros directly (which, in a way, we have).
Due to the ongoing global pandemic, and like many other releases, from video games to films, the game was originally delayed. Let's just hope that Hogwarts Legacy will hit shelves sooner rather than later, because we're not convinced the upcoming sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will be enough to satisfy fans!
Hogwarts Legacy is set to break new ground in the Wizarding World, as it will allow players to forge their own destiny, and choose whether they wish to become a good wizard or a dark wizard. Players will also be able to make lifelong friends while also attending classes at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The official trailer is also pretty revealing, and despite having been released well over a year ago, isn't slim on showcasing the game's full potential. We see players casting all kinds of spells, taming fantastic beasts, battling magical creatures of all shapes and sizes, brewing potions in the dungeons, and enjoying some downtime in the library.
